MPEG REL Examples
The examples linked from this page demonstrate using the MPEG REL
for eContent distribution and management across the entire value
chain, from B2B (e.g. owner to distributor, distributor to retailer)
to the B2C (retailer to consumer) domains. Using the navigation
menu to the left, you can view examples related to a particular
business domain or view general reference materials.
Although the examples are primarily for the technical reader (they
assume you have a working knowledge of XML), the non-technical reader
will also find them helpful in gaining an understanding of the MPEG
REL's applicability to a variety of business models. The reader
can imagine how all or part of these representative examples could
be used to address current or future business needs.
Using the MPEG REL for eContent distribution provides the following
benefits:
- Describes the distribution terms and conditions in a precise
XML-based language for both human and machine interpretation
- Empowers the content owner to manage the rights and conditions
throughout the distribution channels down to the content consumers
through the specification of the multi-tier distribution relationships,
potentially in a single multi-tier MPEG REL license
- Facilitates eCommerce by enabling the upstream content provider
to present multiple offers (choices) to the downstream distributors
or consumers, with the final selection presented as an enforceable
license.
- Automates the eContent distribution process by matching up
the supply and demand entities based on contractual permissions
and obligations.
- Enables specification of any type of licenses, grants, rights,
and conditions by providing a comprehensive and extensible language.
- Provides unambiguous interpretation and interoperable expressions
of MPEG REL licenses.
- Enables interoperability, and positions players in the eContent
distribution value chain to use of best of breed components or
web services and support interoperability across business models.
